The development proposed to demolish the existing vacant care home on site, freeing up the land for a new build development of 33 residential apartments in a bespoke contemporary building designed to address its corner location and the surrounding context.
The design was driven by several factors including the aspiration of creating an asset to the area; restoring a vacant site to residential use; enhancing the streetscape and compliment nearby heritage buildings with a sensitive and well-detailed contemporary design.
In line with the context of the area the proposed design uses a mixture of soft brick tones which will be varied up by the use of textural details. The façade will also be making use of shadows to add depth into the design, with a variation of steps and recessed details on the elevation, which mirrors the traditional features of brick construction.
The building form follows the previous footprint on site. The plan retains the existing open spaces at the edges of the site, and creates a strong façade with the additional double frontage around the corner tuner between the two existing roads.
