For this project, the client commissioned Umaa to produce a residential development for 33 new high-quality contemporary dwellings. The site is currently vacant and overgrown with planting and ruderal vegetation, located on the Southwestern side of the Wyrley and Essington Canal, the patch of wasteland has much potential due to its sustainable location, being part of a developing residential area.
Due to the site being a relatively small parcel of land, a courtyard-style layout was proposed to successfully make use of the canal views and to achieve and active frontage and coherent streetscape.
The proposed scheme offers a range of bespoke traditional homes, from a range of 1, 2 and 3-bed in the form of townhouses and apartments. Dwellings will be ranging between 2 – 3 storeys high, where the façade will follow a simple contemporary detailing, using a mixture of brown and red bricks, keeping within the same materiality of neighbouring properties.
