Umaa were appointed to explore the possibility of a micro-scale back land development to create a new house on part of the large rear garden of an existing residential property on Lighthorne Road.
Following a detailed design process, a 3-bedroom dormer bungalow with a contemporary elevational treatment was approved by the planning department and Umaa was further appointed to produce the tender and construction package, with the bungalow being completed on site in 2022.
This project was a great experience for our team – due to the compact nature of the site and surrounding constraints, the project presented some unique design challenges requiring great attention to local planning policy and residential design guidance at a micro-scale level. Attention to detail was equally important at the technical design stage (RIBA Stage 4) with a carefully chosen materials and junction details helping to deliver a very satisfying result.
